Kaohsiung is one of the few cities that started with industry. The base is located in Gushan District. It used to be dominated by four major industries: cement, brick kilns, plywood, and steel. This time the design is mainly developed with cement and bricks, hoping to allow the world to better understand the glorious industrial civilization of that time. It is hoped to rekindle the historical memory of the local cement and red brick industry, and build a special library and industrial memorial hall on the vacant land next to the old historical buildings to provide historical traces of the past and prospects for future industry.
We set up the Industrial Memorial Hall next to the previously preserved iron warehouse to display the history, professional techniques and construction methods of the cement and brick kilns, so that everyone can visit and learn, and gain a deeper understanding of the industrial knowledge at that time and the way modern industry operates. We also established a Special libraries are provided to provide professional books and knowledge on architecture and industry, strengthen their professionalism, and expand the depth and breadth of Chinese people’s pursuit of knowledge. An outdoor platform is connected between the two buildings, which is used for rest and provides a good view of the site.
We hope that this architectural work can become the first choice for people to explore related industrial knowledge such as cement and brick kilns, stimulate interest in local industrial history, and promote understanding and attention to contemporary industry.
