臺南舊魚市場是臺南在日治時期專營魚貨拍賣批發的市場，同時也是臺南第一座新式現代化設施的魚市場。自1936年開始使用至2016年已有88年的歷史，是台南都市發展中一座具有人文歷史的公眾建築物。同時該市場也見證了運河盲段填平後，當地曾經存在漁業活動的歷史軌跡。
站在都市發展紋理的角度上我們認為對於這樣一座擁有深厚歷史背景的建築，可以考慮賦予新的活力和用途。這不僅可以保存在地發展的歷史及歷史建築，還能將其轉化為新的文化、旅遊或社區空間，以滿足現代社會的需求。透過保護和重新利用這座建築，我們能繼續延續其再利用的價值同時為基地及周邊發展注入新的生命力。

The old fish market in Tainan holds significant historical importance as it served as a pivotal hub for the auction and wholesale trade of fish during the Japanese colonial era. Being the first modern fish market in Tainan, it symbolizes the city's transition towards modernity and development. Over its 88-year history from 1936 to 2016, the market witnessed the evolution of Tainan's urban landscape and the changes in its fishing industry, leaving an indelible mark on the city's cultural heritage.

Considering its profound historical significance, we firmly believe that revitalizing and repurposing this iconic building can breathe new life into the local community. Preserving its historical and architectural legacy while transforming it into a vibrant cultural, tourist, or community space would not only honor its past but also cater to the contemporary needs of society. By safeguarding and repurposing this building, we can perpetuate its value while infusing fresh vitality into the surrounding area.

The fusion of old and new architecture, coupled with the reconnection and integration with the adjacent Hai'an Zhongzheng Road commercial district and River Joy Square, has breathed new life into the old fish market. Leveraging the commercial potential of the Hai'an Zhongzheng Road commercial district, our plan includes the development of a youth hostel tailored to the needs of modern travelers. This innovative approach incorporates some of the original structures of the old Tainan fish market, creating a seamless blend of two distinct time periods within the architectural landscape. This transformative project not only revitalizes the old fish market but also enhances the overall appeal and functionality of the surrounding area, thereby enriching the cultural fabric and vitality of Tainan's urban environment.
