Woo~草

Woo~weeds

Woo~weeds

In earlier times, people heavily relied on the medicinal properties of herbs. These ubiquitous plants were not only used for treating illnesses, injuries, and as food sources, but also served as emergency crops during times of famine. However, with the changing social landscape, people no longer depended on these herbs as much. Many are now unaware of their benefits and are collectively referred to as "weeds." In some cases, pesticides are used to eradicate them, inadvertently harming the land and environment. Yet, these seemingly inconspicuous "weeds" hold the wisdom of our ancestors and possess their own unique healing properties and characteristics. Woo weeds employs a light-hearted and humorous illustration style to personify 30 common Taiwanese roadside, field, and foothill herbs. Through a guidebook and three hanging scrolls, it showcases the unique benefits and characteristics of these herbs, aiming to reintroduce people to the healing relationship between modern life and weeds. By challenging people's stereotypes about weeds, it explores the common herbs found in daily life and educates about how early people utilized or consumed these useful plants.
