隨著台灣社會結構的改變，單身、不生、離婚、喪偶的人增加，幾乎每個人都會面臨獨居，然而台灣的長照計畫中對於獨居長者缺乏完善的配套措施，並未提出一套完整的政策，因此設計中希望透過生命信託空間的概念，在獨居老人「退休進入到失能前的健康週期」中，提供預防性的協助，並培養正確、安全的獨老觀念，獨居既然已經是時代趨勢，不如順應社會趨勢創造「獨老而不孤老」的生活情境；然而老去的生命不可避免會面臨死亡，因此在基於「生命信託」的基礎下，設計中也提供安寧臨終的服務，在生命的末端，不再施以無效的治療拖延生命，利用正確斷食療法的方式，結束疾病帶來的疼痛，體面的與世界道別，保障獨居長者居住上「有所依」，同時擁有選擇善終的「有所託」，讓大眾不再懼怕老化與死亡帶來的未知和恐懼。
